Top Tips for Bathroom Cleaning

Top Tips for Bathroom Cleaning

Yes, it’s not the most glamorous task in the world, but don’t give up on your dirty bathroom just yet. We’re here to help! With our bathroom cleaning tips, you’ll have your bathroom looking cleaner, quicker.

Creating the right atmosphere and planning ahead

Before you begin tackling the big bathroom clean, it’s good to try and set an atmosphere to help motivate you. Headspace is important: if you can put yourself in the right frame of mind for cleaning, chances are it will go a lot quicker! We’re all different though. Some of us prefer blasting upbeat music, whilst others might work best while being distracted by a gripping audiobook. Try a few different things to find out what mood you prefer. It’s handy to have a rough plan in mind as well. An easy way is to work your way around your dirty bathroom clockwise. This way you’ll avoid cleaning the same spot twice!

Clean the bathroom with things you have at home

You’ve run out of chemical cleaner? No problem, sometimes household remedies work just as well. Cleaning your bathroom with vinegar can give it a shine that you can see your reflection in. Dilute the vinegar with an equal amount of water and put the mixture into a spray bottle and hey presto, you have a DIY bathroom cleaning supply! It’s then just a simple case of spraying it onto surfaces and wiping down with a soft cloth. For slightly heavier cleaning needs, sprinkle around ¼ cup of bicarbonate of soda onto the surface you want to clean, spray it with your vinegar mixture, and leave it to sit for a few minutes. Scrub it away with a sponge for a sparkling surface!

Tackling the toilet

We get it, cleaning the toilet isn’t most people’s idea of a fun time! But with some tactical tips, you can get it out the way in no time. The key is little and often. A quick clean of the toilet every 2-3 days or so will do the trick. That way, you’ll avoid having to tackle those dreaded deep cleans! Closing the lid after you flush will also help to maintain the shininess of the bowl. It’ll help keep the smell from spreading throughout the bathroom too. When it comes to cleaning the inside of the bowl, the baking soda cocktail paired with your vinegar mixture and a toilet brush does the job well for a quick clean. However, if you’re trying to remove harder foes such as limescale then you might need to invest in a stronger product such as one from the Bref Fresh Boost range.

Make the shower shine

Cleaning your shower doesn’t have to involve excessive elbow grease. If done consistently, it’s a quick and easy job that will give you beautiful results! Again, you can use your natural bathroom cleaner to get the shower sparkling. Pour some of your vinegar mixture into a plastic bag, submerge the showerhead in the liquid for around three to four hours, then remove it and rinse it down with water. Avoiding that slightly grimy build-up that often happens on shower doors and walls can be difficult. However, there are a few ways to try and minimise this. Firstly, getting into the habit of wiping down surfaces with a squeegee after every shower you take will really help to prevent any unwanted build-up. Also a nice trick – using soap or shower gel that has a neutral pH balance will reduce the damage done to your shower door, walls and curtain.

Quick and easy wall cleaning

Say you want to get all your tiles, walls, and the ceiling nice and clean before visitors come over, but you don’t have an appliance for steam cleaning tiles? There’s a handy way in which you can make life easier for yourself. Using your homemade bathroom cleaning supply, spray down the tiles and wall areas that you’d like to clean, then switch on the shower and turn the heat up to full so that the bathroom begins to fill with steam. Close the door and let it run for 20 minutes. After this time is up, re-enter your homemade steam room and switch off the shower. Now all you need to do is gently wipe down the surfaces with a clean cloth and they’ll have a lovely, fresh sparkle!
