Summertime and the living is easy…unless, that is, your chore list is getting longer and longer. Cleaning might be the last thing you want to do when it’s hot, but summer messes are inevitable. Here's what to clean to keep your home spick and span during the summer. It is all quick and easy to do!
Let’s get cracking with the summer cleaning tips.
Dust gathers on surfaces like fan blades. When they get switched on in the summer, they can blow dust and pollen around your home. Achoo! Avoid this by wiping the ceiling fan blades down. Spray the inside of an old pillowcase with an all-purpose cleaner and slip it onto a fan blade. Wipe the fan blade down, catching the dust inside the pillowcase.
Make room for fresh fruit, ice-cold lemonade, and barbecue leftovers in your fridge by clearing out and cleaning your refrigerator. Take everything out and place it in a cooler. Wipe down the inner surfaces with a damp cloth and an all-purpose cleaner. Remove the drawers and clean them in the sink with dish soap. Restock the fridge, checking expiration dates as you go. Toss anything past its prime.
Have some hard-bristled brushes handy for your porch and patio so that you can quickly sweep away any dried dirt and sand to keep it from being tracked into your home. Especially if you frequently visit the beach or go hiking over the summer months!
You’ll likely be spending more time outdoors during the summer, so give some love to the neglected patio furniture. Wipe all patio furniture and hose it down. We’ve got more on sprucing up the balcony or patio here.
In the summertime, we recommend cleaning your bathroom regularly. Do a quick clean and swish the toilet brush around the toilet every day (here is how). Clean your shower and tiles just before YOU shower, and then rinse it and yourself off in the shower to save water (and time).
It may seem like a chore, but unless you enjoy charred food and a potentially faulty grill, summer (aka barbecue season) is the time to clean the BBQ grill. Spray the grill with oven and grill cleaner from about 8 inches away. Be sure to check the label for instructions. Let it soak in for 10 minutes—longer if it’s caked on there—and wipe off using a wet scouring sponge or cloth. earn how to clean the grill grates here.
Whether gardening, playing sports or eating those sticky spare ribs a little too enthusiastically, summer stains are going to happen. And we all know that a stain left to set is harder to remove, so time to get prepared for summer stains! Stock up on a powerful, all-purpose stain removal detergent. Persil® ProClean® detergents, for example, are suitable for most kinds of fabrics. Next, find out how to remove specific stains by checking out the articles on our Laundry page.
